It was a freezing cold early morning in December 2009 and I looked out of the window and we had been welcomed by a layer of snow!
It was a school day and my wife couldn't wait to wake our three kids up and tell them it was snowing and school was likely to be cancelled for the day.
Sure enough, the news came that school was closed and we wrapped up warm ready to venture out into the snow there one only one slight problem - we only had one sledge and we had three kids. My wife and I started looking online to see if we could order some sledges ASAP so all three of our kids could have one each. We spent over an hour looking, as most of the websites we visited were out of stock. We eventually found some and we ordered them to be delivered (weather permitting of course!)
So we all ventured out into the snow and we all had a fabulous time, apart from having to share the one sledge between us. We also spoke to other parents who had also tried to order sledges online but had spent so long looking through the various websites that they either gave up or were disappointed by the ones they could find.
When I returned home, I was chatting online to a friend of mine who coincidentally also had three children and they had experienced the same problem as me, and the other parents I had spoken to.
As I am fulltime self employed and I run a few websites, I had the idea to create a website which parents could use to stop wasting time looking around for sledges and just have a website which done the work for you hence www.sledges.org.uk was born.
Work began on the website around February 2010, and in September 2010 it was launched ready for the cold winter which was expected in November, December of 2010.
Many hours and a fair bit of money has been put into creating www.sledges.org.uk which has proved already to be a huge success as we are receiving daily emails from happy parents who think the idea is fabulous.

The primary aim of www.sledges.org.uk is to help parents find a sledge for their children, as being a parent I know how frustrated and disappointed my kids were last year when they thought they couldn't get one. If this website makes just a few kids happy, then it has been worth the hours and money spent on it.
